The Course
Leisure, a multi-billion dollar global industry, looks set to make major inroads into the world economy and contribute significantly to the Singapore economy. In the near future, resort and other related leisure businesses alone will see an increased demand for trained personnel with the requisite skills. The Singapore Tourism Board projects that 10,000 jobs will be created when the two integrated resorts are completed in 2009/ 2010. This suggests that the leisure and resort management industry will become one of the hottest in terms of job expansion.
This course aims to give you maximum exposure to a comprehensive spectrum of leisure and resort businesses that will enable you to be a part of the industry. It will allow you to be on the pulse of some of the most exciting businesses in the leisure industry. You will find the course both challenging and rewarding, with ample real-life learning opportunities through exposure to the industry. In addition, it affords you the flexibility to move into a myriad of leisure businesses.
The curriculum strongly emphasises the three major segments of the tourism industry: the Resort business, Leisure business and Meetings and Event business. In each area, you will be exposed to key aspects of operating and managing resorts and leisure entities such as clubs, spas, attractions and cruise ships. You will also have hands-on experience in organising meetings and events. Your ability to plan, analyse and strategise will also be critically honed.
The course also focuses on preparing you to handle the demands of working life through subjects such as Business Etiquette and Service Excellence in which you will learn how to interact with others in a business setting, and study the finer points of global citizenship and cross-cultural communication.
You will also be allowed to choose two elective subjects, which will broaden your knowledge of the leisure industry. These include subjects such as Introduction to Gaming Operations, Ticketing & Reservations, Culinary Science and e-business in Hospitality and Tourism. Apart from these options, you will also undergo a 20-week attachment at a company of your choice.
The course maximises your learning by utilising teaching modes that enhance hands-on discovery. Your active engagement in forums, discussions and presentations will allow room for creative thinking and problem-solving.
Career Opportunities
The Diploma in Leisure & Resort Management graduates will have undergone training which suitably prepares them for wide-ranging career options with special emphasis on the leisure, resort, meetings and meetings industries. As a graduate, you will be have the opportunity to assume a junior executive position in workplaces upon graduation, and will readily find employment in leisure-related business such as hotels, resorts, clubs, spas, exhibitions and conventions, and events management companies.
As a graduate, you will also have the option to further your studies in universities in Singapore and abroad with credit exemption or advanced standing in many renowned universities.

To be eligible for selection, you must also have sat for at least one of the following subjects:
Combined Humanities, Commerce/Commercial Studies, Geography, History, Literature in English/Chinese/Malay/Tamil, or Principles of Accounts.
* SPM/UEC holders must have a minimum grade of 6 for their Bahasa Inggeris (Paper 122/Paper 322)/ Communication English or English Language (for UEC holders).
